Conductive coatings sector 'to increase use of nanomaterials'The news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Monday, 22nd June 2009 (3627 views) The use of nanomaterials in the conductive coatings market is likely to increase in the coming years, it has been suggested.Writing for Global SMT & Packaging, Jade Po Kellard stated that the "superior conductivity" offered by nanomaterials - which often contain gold - means the sector will continue to grow. "Metallic nanoparticles are, for example, more conductive than simple metallic powders because of the higher surface area to volume ratio of nanoparticle," she explained. Despite much of the development in the sector involving producing nanocoatings containing carbon nanotubes, Ms Po Kellard added that nanorods and nanowires made from metallic oxides will also have an "important" role to play in the market, along with coatings and pastes containing metallic materials. She noted that companies such as Sony and Samsung are currently working on the development of nanocoatings for use in flat-panel displays and touchscreens. Last week, scientists at Jila in the US revealed they have used gold to create a new non-stick surface that may help improve molecule research.
