Chemical firm reveals new gold catalystsThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Friday, 19th June 2009 (1174 views) A rise in the use of gold catalysts in the chemical sector has prompted one firm to increase its range of homogenous catalysts made from the precious metal.Strem Chemicals has made three additions to its Project AuTEK AUROlite products, with each featuring a one per cent loading of gold on supports made from either aluminium oxide, titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. Nano crystallites made from gold that measure between 2-3nm are used on the products, which Strem Chemicals has described as being of "commercial grade". "Gold catalysis has had a recent resurgence," chief operating officer the firm doctor Ephraim Honig explained. Engineer Jason McPherson added that the items will be useful for carrying out "liquid phase oxidations", along with other industrial reactions. Gold is an important material within the nanotechnology and chemical sectors, with the precious metal being used in the creation of nanorobots that are to compete in the RoboCup games in Austria later this month.
