Gold nanorobots to compete at RoboCup eventThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Wednesday, 17th June 2009 (1018 views) Nanorobots made from gold are set to compete in the upcoming RoboCup games.Machines manufactured using the precious metal will be taking part in nanosoccer, which involves robots roughly the size of dust mites playing the sport on an area no larger than a grain of rice. Organised by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the competition will see the robots attempt to navigate a course blocked by 'defenders' made from polymer posts, as well as complete speed tests and a ball handling exercise. Teams from Switzerland, the US and Canada will be competing at the games - which are designed to test the agility, response times and manoeuvrability of nanorobots - when they begin in Graz, Austria on June 29th. In related news, scientists from the Netherlands and Germany have made a nanotechnology breakthrough by developing a way to use a form of atomic microscopy to measure the charge state of atoms.
