Icon produces nanotechnology guidelinesThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Tuesday, 2nd June 2009 (1180 views) The International Council on Nanotechnology (Icon) has produced a new website aiming to promote best practice within the sector.Icon, which is based at Rice University in Houston, has published the GoodNanoGuide, an online wiki providing advice on handling the materials - such as gold - that are often used in nanotechnology. Experts from the sector, as well as those specialising in occupational safety, have helped to develop the resource, which is being overseen by an implementation committee from North America and Europe. "Governmental agencies and occupational researchers are generating a lot of good information about how to handle nanomaterials safely," Icon director Kristen Kulinowski stated. She added that the GoodNanoGuide "supplements" these guidelines and has the added benefit of outlining "specific protocols". Elsewhere in the nanotechnology sector, University College London recently announced that it is to offer an MSc focusing on the subject that includes a mixture of theory and practical-based work.
