Nanotechnology firms are being urged to take part in a Cardiff event focusing on the use of technology in healthcare.

The New Technology in Healthcare Conference, which his being held in the city's Millennium Stadium on May 13th, has been organised by the Welsh Assembly Government and will be attended by a number of clinicians and executives operating in the health sector.

Nanotechnology, which often involves the use of gold, can play a key role in the development of new techniques to be used in the healthcare industry.

Nadeem Risvi, general manager of Laser Micromachining, stated that the company is "proud" to be taking part.

"Wales has built itself a growing reputation worldwide in the nanotechnology space and … there is no better time to showcase the benefits this new technology can bring," he explained.

Earlier this month a new nanotechnology research centre was opened at Swansea University, which will allow researchers to focus on disease prevention.
