Tuesday, 17th March 2009 (1285 views) Bath University is to hold a lecture into the use of nanotechnology in DNA research this week, it has been announced. The event, which is taking place tomorrow (March 18th), will include a talk from professor Andrew Turberfield of the University of Oxford, who is one of the scientists leading the way in using nanotechnology to study DNA. He is set to talk about recent work involving the creation of DNA 'machines', which can potentially be used to deliver drugs between human cells. "DNA is a wonderful material with which to build. It can act as a molecular glue, as the fuel for molecular engines, and as a structural material in self-assembling nanostructures," Mr Turberfield stated. Earlier this month UK scientists based at London's School of Pharmacy announced they have developed a new method for using nanotechnology to target cancer cells in patients, a breakthrough that, according to lead scientist Dr Andreas Schatzlein, has "great potential".
