Friday, 6th March 2009 (1382 views) A gold ring discovered at a site in Moray, north-east Scotland, may have once been owned by Macbeth, it has been claimed.Alistair McPherson, the metal detectorist who found the item, believes the detail and workmanship of the ring suggests that it may have belonged to the former King of Scots, the Northern Scot reports. "I knew it was something special as soon as I turned the earth over," he told the news source, adding that the craftsmanship on the 5.6g ring is "beautiful" and "far surpasses" any of his other finds. The item was discovered in a field near Burghead - where a number of other valuable finds have also been made - and Mr McPherson stated that it may be of Anglo-Saxon history. Elsewhere in the UK, gold coins and jewellery that are believed to be centuries old are to go on display as part of an exhibition of Anglo-Saxon artefacts in Ipswich, the Evening Star reports.
