Thursday, 5th March 2009 (1340 views) Oakland University has announced the launch of a new centre to investigate the use of nanotechnology in the areas of healthcare, energy, manufacturing and IT.The NanoTech Research and Development Institute is being opened in partnership with Nanorex, a firm specialising in developing nano biotechnology engineering tools, which has provided $10,000 (£7,100) in sponsorship, the Oakland Business Review Reports. Both undergraduate and graduate level students will be able to take part in the programme to study nanotechnology, which often involves the use of gold. T C Yih, professor of engineering at the university and leader of the institute, welcomed the development, telling the news source that nanotechnology research is "leading to unprecedented understanding and control over the fundamental building blocks of all physical objects". This is the latest nanotechnology institute to be announced this week, with the Western Mail reporting that Wales' Swansea University has opened its new Centre for NanoHealth.
