Friday, 20th February 2009 (1601 views) Representatives from more than 20 countries are enjoying the world's largest nanotechnology exhibition in Japan this week.The event, which opened in Tokyo yesterday, sees active participation from 606 companies and organisations and is expected to attract 50,000 visitors from around the globe before Friday. It's the eighth time the nanotech event has happened, but this year will be differentiated not just by size but a heavy Spanish element too. The European country's Institute for Foreign Trade is promoting a special initiative focusing attention on Spain's top industrial technologies and products. Called Espana, Technology for Life, it will also encourage cross-country innovation by better integrating Spanish technological developments in the Far East. In related news, a breakthrough using nanotechnology and gold could mean that simple tests for cancer may be devised. Scientists at National Chia Tung University have created a method by which tiny particles of gold could be used to detect cancerous cells in the body, the Taipei Times reports.
