People 'optimistic' about nanotechnologyThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Wednesday, 10th December 2008 (4122 views) People in the UK and US feel a "high degree of optimism" over nanotechnology and the potential that the field has for the future, research has found.A study carried out by the University of California in collaboration with Cardiff University has concluded that people in both countries view some potential applications of nanotechnology positively. Its usefulness for energy technology - something that gold nanoparticles are featured in frequently - received a particularly strong response, the researchers noted. Nick Pidgeon, leader of the Cardiff-based team, said that the study was the "first ever such public engagement exercise to be simultaneously conducted in two different countries". Nanotechnology using gold has formed the basis for several energy studies, including that conducted recently by Aaron Stein from the Centre for Functional Nanomaterials at Brookhaven National Laboratory. His work focused on using gold nano-catalysts to boost the rate of reactions in fuel cells, as noted by Stony Brook University's publication the Statesman.
