Gold nano work highlighted in journalThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Thursday, 4th December 2008 (4360 views) Recent scientific work using gold nanoparticles has been featured in a leading journal. The Advanced Materials publication has highlighted research by Antonio Garcia - director of the Laboratory for Personalised Molecule Measurement at Arizona State University and his colleague Manuel Marquez. Their images of gold nanoparticles produced using the optical microscopy method are shown on the cover of the journal. In a study, the researchers produced structured 'nanojewels' by evaporating water from miniscule particles of gold and latex. Such developments could be used in future scientific applications, in particular optical technologies, the university stated. Methods that can quickly produce nanostructures will become increasingly important to the field of nanotechnology as it grows and becomes more commercialised, the institution added. One such technique has recently been developed by students at Purdue University, who used a gold plate to carry out an efficient 'nanoassembly' process that positioned tiny particles in seconds.
