Tuesday, 4th November 2008 (1907 views) Representatives from the fields of micro-electronics and nanoelectronics will attend an upcoming conference held in San Francisco, California.Nanotechnology, a discipline in which tiny gold particles are often used to develop high-tech medical and electronic devices, will be discussed at the event. Held at the city's Hilton hotel, the 54th annual IEEE International Electron Devices Meeting will run from December 15th-17th. The conference aims to showcase leading work within the field of micro and nano-electronic technologies and bring together 2,000 of the world's top scientists and engineers within the industry. Spokesperson Kazunari Ishimaru told of the "growing importance" of electronics technology for the 21st century, which is expected to play a "crucial and expanding role". This includes solar power and bioelectronics, he said. Meanwhile, scientists from the Fraunhofer Institute of Solar Energy Systems in Germany have used gold to create an improved solar cell that could lead to better efficiency in solar power stations.
