Students encouraged to enter nanotechnology industryThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Monday, 13th October 2008 (1834 views) Science students are being encouraged to enter the field of nanotechnology as they will be "highly sought after in the future", it has been claimed.Biotech Career News has urged those with a scientific background to seek training in the nanotech discipline. Nanotechnology consists of the manipulation of materials that measure 1-100 nanometers and gold particles are often used for experiments within the sector. It requires highly-skilled researchers as the size of the materials is so minute - a sheet of paper is around 100,000 nanometers thick. And it is estimated that by 2015, up to two million nanotechnology workers will be needed to support the industry, the organisation claimed. Rod-shaped gold nanoparticles about 25 nanometers in diameter and 250 nanometers in length were recently studied at Rice Universrity. Due to their long, thin shape, they react differently to light, magnetism and electricity than spherical shapes or disc-shaped particles of gold, the scientists noted.
