Mayo Clinic scientist to speak on gold nanoparticle technologyMonday, 1st October 2007 (3371 views) Plans are underway for the Nanotechnology Conference and Trade Expo to be held during International Nanotechnology Week on October 3rd and 4th in Dallas, Texas.Mayo Clinic biomedical engineer Dr Debabrata Mukhopadhyay is scheduled to speak on the second day of the event about nanotechnology breakthroughs, including the use of gold nanoparticles, according to nanotechwire.com. The nanotechnology website reports that advance notes of Dr Mukhopadhayay's speech highlight the growing uses of nanotechnology in the field of biology. "Our research suggests that gold nanoparticles are antiangiogenic molecules, whereas some of the lanthanide nanorods are proangiogenic," advance notes of the doctor's speech summary state. "Overall, our goal is to develop the next generation of nanomedicines that can be translated to the clinics in the near future," he added, explaining that gold nanoparticles could potentially be used as biomolecules as well. The conference, hosted at the Dallas Convention Centre, will explore new advances in nanoscience, technology and engineering and attracts attention in North America and abroad.
