A new online database has been launched by the Centre for the Study of Ethics in the Professions (CSEP) at the Illinois Institute of Technology so that the intricacies of nanotechnology can be better explored.

The free database is entitled NanoEthicsBank and is designed to inform interested parties about the societal and ethical implications of nanotechnology.

Categories for discussion include articles on the public's perception of nanotechnology and its uses in society as well as initiatives from across the globe that utilise this type of technology.

According to Nanowerk News: "The NanoEthicsBank is part of the NanoConnection to Society project that will be an important resource on the interchange of public discourse, regulation and economics in the development nanotechnology."

The use of gold in nanotechnology is becoming increasingly common due to its resistance to surface oxidation. It has been used as a catalyst in controlling pollution as well as in fuel cell electrocatalysts to name but two.
